Overview
Yaletown is a micro-market of downtown and one of Vancouver’s premier, heritage districts. Nestled between Pacific Blvd to the south & east, Homer St. to the west and Nelson St. to the north. This 19th century, brick warehouse district was formerly a heavy industrial/rail yard which has undergone a major rejuvenation since the 1986 World’s Fair (Expo 86).
Now a densely populated neighborhood with its numerous high rise condominium developments and converted heritage loft-style homes.
Hamilton and Mainland Street are the most significant intact street scapes of the era and are lined with handsome brick warehouses, rail platforms and cantilevered canopies. (often compared with the SOMA area of San Francisco)
Its narrow streets offer a wide variety of chic, upper-end shops, galleries, restaurants, cafes, bistros, brew-pubs & night clubs all within walking distance of the downtown financial district.
Just steps to the shores of False Creek, several urban parks, community centers and the recently built, Elsie Roy Elementary school. Today, life in Yaletown caters to young, upwardly mobile singles and/or couples.
